Membership Categories

There are six categories of NASC membership. Each category is specifically designed to meet the needs of the Member type. As a condition of membership, all NASC Members and Member firms must comply with NASC membership guidelines and the Code of Ethics, and be a Member in good standing with the Association.


Primary Member

This membership category is designed exclusively for individuals or legally recognized business entities that provide products, programs, services, or solutions directly to consumers, other solution providers, or channel members. To qualify for membership as a Primary Member, the business of the individual or firm must derive more than fifty (50%) percent of its gross revenue from IT or related technology products, programs, or services. Primary Members are entitled to full membership privileges and may use the Designated Solution Provider (DSP) designation while conducting any business for which they qualified as a Primary Member.

Associate Member

This membership category is designed exclusively for an individual (not to include a legally recognized business entity) who is a direct employee or full-time contractor of a qualified Primary Member. Proof of employment must be submitted by the employer if requested by the NASC. If the Associate Member ceases to be employed by the qualified Primary Member for whatever reason, membership as an Associate Member is suspended until such time the individual is either employed by another qualified Primary Member or applies for and is granted membership by the NASC as a new Primary Member. Associate Members are entitled to full membership privileges and may use the Designated Solution Provider (DSP) designation during active employment with a qualified Primary Member.

Tip:      Select Associate Member if you are currently employed by a qualified Primary Member to provide IT or related technology products, programs, or services for your employer (and are not maintaining your own IT or related technology business). Academic Member

This membership category is designed exclusively for (1) an individual who is employed as a full-time or adjunct faculty member of a recognized education institution, and (2) who delivers curriculum-based education or training involving IT or related technologies as part of his or her employment with the education institution. Proof of employment is required consisting of either a dated faculty ID card, or a recent faculty payment stub (with salary information obscured). Any such form of identification must bear the name of the issuing institution. Academic Members are entitled to full membership privileges and may use the Designated Solution Provider (DSP) designation while serving as an Academic Member.

Tip:      Select Academic Member if you are employed as a professor, teacher, or instructor of a certified secondary, post secondary, or graduate school or institution and instruct IT or related technology education courses. Student Member

This membership category is designed exclusively for an individual who is currently enrolled in a state-recognized college, university, trade school, or other post secondary institute of higher learning, and is pursuing a certificate or degree in the IT or related technology industries. Proof of enrollment issued by the institution must be provided to the NASC at the time of application consisting of either; (1) a dated student ID card with photo identification, (2) a dated, current class schedule, or (3) a dated, transcript. Any such form of identification must be issued by the institution and bear its name and logo. (Any confidential information such as social security number or personal financial information must be obscured prior to submission to the NASC.)

This is a limited form of membership with a reduced fee. As a result, Student Members may only use the “NASC Member Connections” and the “NASC Member Forum” services. Student Members may not use the Designated Solution Provider (DSP) designation. Further, an individual may only be a Student Member for a period of five years from the date of original application as a Student Member.

Channel Partner

This membership category is designed exclusively for recognized business entities whose business plan and function involve direct partnering with other members of the channel. The fact that the organization also offers products, programs, or services directly to consumers does not, in and of itself, disqualify it from participation in the NASC as a Channel Partner. While dues are scaled to help small to medium-sized Channel Partners, all Channel Partners, regardless of the product or service offered, or their company size or dollar volume, are welcome to join and participate in the benefits of NASC membership.

Through their NASC membership, Channel Partners are able to reach a growing number of IT and related technology professionals, Solution Providers, and other Channel Partners. Excellent opportunities are provided to showcase your organization’s products and innovations. Further, nearly all sizes and types of Channel Partners are served by the NASC. By joining the NASC as a Channel Partner, you can help increase product exposure and sales in a number of effective ways such as:

•           Social media and networking: Through “NASC Member Connections” you can easily keep other Members informed about your products and services. Network with other Members and Channel Partners. Import and link your Facebook account.

•           Sales opportunities: Ample opportunities exist through the NASC “Member Classifieds” and our store portal to promote and market your business along with its products, programs, and services.

•           Video applications: The NASC gives Channel Partners the ability to post short videos for other Members to utilize. Whether the purpose is business promotion, product or service demonstrations, or how-to instructions, Members will bond even more closely to you as their Channel Partner.

•           Technical advice: As a Channel Partner, you are often called upon for technical information and assistance. Through the NASC Member Tech Forum, you can position yourself as a key technical advisor who can be relied upon when it matters most. Show Members how your products and services might be the missing link to a great outcome for the Member’s client.

Tip:      Select Channel Partner if your IT or related technology products or services are available to other members of the channel or consumers, but are primarily sold or delivered through other resellers, retailers, solution providers, or technology professionals. Affiliate Partner

This membership category is designed exclusively for individuals and recognized business entities that provide professional services or products to NASC members which are non-IT related. Examples of services or products that Affiliate Partners might provide to Members include legal services, accounting services, financial planning, business consulting, employment services, office supplies, printing services, packaging and shipping, or commercial real estate and leasing services. Basically, any non-IT related service provider or supplier that an NASC Member may use in conjunction with his or her business is a possible candidate for membership in the NASC as an Affiliate Partner. Membership benefits that Affiliate Partners experience parallel those of Channel Partners. For a list of these benefits, refer to the Channel Partner discussion, immediately above.

Tip:      Select Affiliate Partner if you or your organization does not supply IT or related technology products or services, but instead provides other business support products or services to IT and related technology companies. SUBCONTRACTING

Imagine offering a broader range of technology services to your valued clients than ever before. As a Member of the NASCsm, you are not only part of a talented pool of experts, but you can actually put these experts directly to work for you. Your participation in the NASCsm gives you access to our cross-Member subcontracting... and it’s only a mouse click away.

The process is simple: (1) Your client asks you to provide a special product or service that you ordinarily do not provide, (2) You access the NASCsm database to seek out a Member who can assist you in providing it, (3) Jointly provide the product or service to your client, and (4) Keep your client happy and loyal to you for a broader range of future work.

CLASSIFIEDS

The management of unwanted and overstocked assets is a growing problem for many solution providers. As new technologies emerge, the question of how best to handle the harvesting and redistribution of de-installed and previously-owned equipment can be time-consuming and annoying.

The thought of discarding these items when you know that someone, somewhere, might be able to use or be willing to pay for them is equally frustrating. So, the items accumulate and take up valuable space which is already at a premium in your store, office or warehouse. These once-valuable assets simply depreciate and fade into useless obsolescence.

CONNECTIONS

NASC Member Connections is a Members-only social media and business networking resource.

The fabric of modern human life is now woven on social media and networking sites. The NASC understands this important development and has its own “Business Networking/Social Media” component called Member Connections. NASC Member Connections is a Members-only tool designed to facilitate: (1) Members connecting with other Members to do business; and (2) Member connections which are intended to be purely social.

As Member business relationships develop, so too will friendships. By cultivating business and social relationships, Members will fortify a true sense of community. People tend to take better care of those who they also consider to be their friends. Member Connections can also be used to communicate with Members on a personal basis before actually doing business with them.

RESOURCES

Technology is changing faster today than at any other time in history. Keeping pace with these changes is a daunting task for everyone in the industry. NASCsm understands that Members need immediate access to targeted information resources. These resources include various publications and videos related to the IT and technology industry.

Members are also encouraged to share their knowledge and experience by uploading their own helpful resources (subject to legal guidelines). The combined volume of resources includes videos, documents, white papers, technical bulletins and studies. The NASCsm also welcomes technical contributions and updates from its corporate partners and sponsors.

TECH FORUM

Through our fully functional and interactive Members-only forum, problems related to technology and channel business needs can be jointly solved. When a question involves an individual Member need, this powerful membership community goes to work “individually” to help answer it. When a problem involves an industry need, the entire membership community works “collectively” to help solve it.

Regardless of a problem’s level of difficulty, there is an excellent chance a Member will be able to provide competent and timely advice on how to solve it. NASCsm carefully monitors the forum to make sure that it is used for the intended purpose of helping other Members. Members can rest assured that the best minds in the industry are focused exclusively on solving their business and technology-related problems.
